Famadihana
Back in Madagascar the family here had a big ceremony to celebrate. The grandparents that passed away some years ago were reunited at last in a new tomb build by their children. 4 zebu's had to be killed, and 40 liters of toka gasy (home brew rum) had to be finished. 2 Nights of partying until daylight, dancing in front of the 2 bodies and lots of speeches to remember the ancestors. And then after 7 days of arranging, travelling, drinking, waiting, eating rice, sleeping in the house of the ancestors, fighting zebu's, eating unexpected parts of them, and dancing with a body after 5 years in the ground, we could join the two in the new tomb. Lots of impressions, not easily caught in picture, film or word. Check the link for a video of one day of the ceremony. On the picture the family and the people of the surrounding villages are digging around 4 meters to get to the entrance of this classical tomb where grandmother was burried.

Finally out of Tana again. It's not a bad city (although 5th on the list of most dirty cities in the world, I don't know who's list, but well), but life can get a bit boring. So we set out for Moramanga where grandpa lives and works. The village on the picture is on the way to Ambatondrazaka, the rice heaven of Madagascar (And they need it, with 97kg per person per year, the Malagasy are the biggest rice consumers in the world). In the background you can see the haute-plateau. C'est tout for now. The rest of our life can be followed still on zochristian.blogspot.com.

misy rano
Finally. The water comes out of the tap. Although the installation is not of the most advanced type, I must say that the 2 guys that installed it, really knew what to do. And after two months it is for sure nice to just have a nice hot shower. I needed that. Only problem is, that when there is a power cut, we don't have water either. Bon, tsy maninona. Let's not become a snob from one day to the other, right. Ok. Nice showers wherever you are!!

Tratran'ny taona 2010
Tatra tunes, is what I said to the 3 year old neighbour-kid. I don't think he minded I was referring to the music of the slowak mountains. What I should have said I learned later today: Samy ho tratrin'ny ho avy. Well I didn't remember even when we're visiting the oldest people in the hood and family. Now I wish you all a very tsara be 2010, with a lot less Karaoke than for me I hope. Take care. CZK
