Tsaratsara

Manrapiono. A la prochaine.

Maybe, only maybe I was wrong having these positive reflections on the local President here in Madagaskar. Still his words are saying what I like to hear, at least partly, but as other information is coming to me I feel his real intentions are not as good as they may have seemed. After winning the referendum that literally divides the country in a different way than before, Ravolomanana has literally divided the country to rule. So it seems that slowly, but surely he draws his plan together.

La foto: yet another picture of Tana. The city I never seem to leave for more than a couple of hours. And winter started here. Cold nights and warm days for us now.

Miasa, miasa, altijd maar miasa.

Immer an die Arbeit
Working, working, always working
Trabajo, trabajo, siempre el trabajo
Le bouleau s’arret jamais

But we made it up to this level now. And we are only starting. It would only be so typical to build a plant like this, and in the end it is the local client who may not be able to supply it with fuel. We’ll do our best...

This is the way electricity is being brought to Madagaskar. 6 flights of the second largest Antanov airplane in the world are bringing currently the power engines from La Reunion to Ivato airport near Antananarivo. After that, the maybe even riskier business of transporting them through downtown Tana will start. As there is not a single street flat here, and the roads are never wider than just 2 taxi-be’s, that is going to be a huge challenge. We'll see how this story ends

Well for the rest of it, I am back in Tana doing my work as a civil supervisor on the construction of this controversial power plant. It will bring electricity to many people, but it comes with a cost that not everyone here seems to know. The costs are not that obvious and direct maybe, but the situation is clear. The plant is being built in the middle of a neighbourhood because the client wanted it to have next to their drinking water plant. It runs on heavy fuel and this needs to be transported from the port at 500km from here. Up to you to fill in what are the dangers and difficulties of all this.

This photo shows in summary part of my life in Tana. Looking through the windscreen of an old Peugeot 504 with DVD player installed, I see old 2CV taxis, people carrying anything on their head, even if this is bigger than themselves, and watching the last sunbeams before sunset hitting the hillsides of downtown Antananarivo.

There is more about my life, but to tell you would mean talking about my work. I try to avoid this in this space as much as possible. CU.
